Glen was born and grew up in Halifax and eventually studied photography and film production at Ryerson in Toronto. Part of his first job with the Nova Scotia Youth Agency in 1970 was buying books for a small library at a drop-in centre. After working in film production and datacentres in Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax, he is again looking after books, having been chosen to take care of Chester’s heritage Library in 1994.
